What Is an Adoption Plan?
Essentially, your adoption plan is determined by how you wish to maintain a connection with your child. We can review the pros and cons of each and help you decide which plan is best for you.
Here are the plans:
Open Adoption Plan
When you choose an open adoption, you have direct contact with your child’s adoptive family. You exchange some form of identifying information. For instance, you can arrange phone calls, letters, email contact, or even personal visits.
It is not co-parenting, but you have the most contact with the couple you’ve chosen and your child.
Semi-Open Adoption Plan
If you prefer more privacy, you can opt for a semi-open adoption. As all communication initially goes through New Life Adoptions. You don’t have direct contact with the adoptive family.
Adoption requires a great deal of trust from everyone involved. It can be hard to provide fully identifiable information at first. With a semi-open plan, you still communicate with the adoptive family, but all phone calls, letters, emails, or personal visits go through us first.
As you grow more comfortable with each other, you can then exchange identifying information and contact one another directly.
Closed Adoption Plan
If you wish to remain completely anonymous, choose a closed adoption. Today, only about 5% of all adoptions are closed.
No identifying information is shared, and you have no contact with the adoptive family. Women may choose a closed adoption if they’re in a problematic relationship or want to keep the pregnancy and the subsequent adoption of their child a secret.
